Goldenberg D, Goldstein BJ. Handbook of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery. Thieme 2011, 802 pages, 125 illustrations, $ 89.95
This 802-page soft cover, easily portable, handbook follows the form and structure of other medical handbooks by Thieme such as the one on neurosurgery, which was reviewed previously. While this is certainly not a publication aimed at radiologists (there are no diagnostic images included), it does cover all key clinical topics and, therefore, would be useful for those who deal with a sizeable amount of head and neck radiology.
There are 7 sections: Perioperative Care and General Otolaryngology; Otology; Rhinology; Laryngology and the Upper Aerodigestive Tract; Head and Neck; Pediatric Otolaryngology; Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery containing abundant charts with diagnostic information. Anatomic drawings, tumor staging along with T, N, M definitions for different tumors and clinical symptoms, differential diagnosis and surgical options/medical treatment are among the items covered. This handbook would be valuable to have in a neuroradiology section library, available for quick reference.
