Broetz D, Weller M. Physical Therapy for Intervertebral Disk Disease: A Practical Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment. Thieme; 2016; 220 pp; 160 ill; $69.99
Fischer P. Tests and Exercises for the Spine. Thieme; 2016; 208 pp; 296 ill; $54.99
One recently published (2016) softcover book, Physical Therapy for Intervertebral Disk Disease (220 pages), and a second (2015 English version), Tests and Exercises for the Spine (208 pages), contain no imaging that would be of interest to neuroradiologists. Despite that fact, however, these books, particularly the one by Paul Fischer, should demand the attention of all of us. Who has not suffered episodes of low back and neck pain? Sitting at or hunched over workstation for hours sets all of us up for debilitating pain and back discomfort. So this book shows, with excellent photographs and step instructions on how to ameliorate these problems, how to position ourselves, and how to integrate such good habit into our daily lives. Some practical advice along the same lines is present in the book by Broetz and Weller.
It seems strange to recommend on this site a book or books that are unrelated to neuroradiology, but these (especially the book by Fischer) could potentially be more important to each of us than one of the dozens imaging texts on the market. Keep your back and neck healthy (even as I write this I am following the advice by Fischer). This is a good guide to keep handy on your shelf.
