This volume of Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America, edited by Barton Branstetter from the University of Pittsburgh, deals with selected topics in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) imaging. Although the imaging itself is straightforward and is probably familiar to most neuroradiologists who are involved with substantial volumes of head and neck imaging, the added value of this edition of the Clinics to our specialty lies in the coauthorship of several chapters by clinicians in otolaryngology: 6 of the 11 chapters are so coauthored. The topics covered are the value of CT versus MR imaging in a variety of lesions, positron-emission tomography/CT, facial fractures, the parapharyngeal space, the oral cavity and jaws, the larynx, hearing loss, tinnitus, lesions of the cavernous sinus and petrous apex, preoperative/intraoperative imaging, and previous endoscopic surgery of the skull bases.
Although one quickly realizes that many ENT topics are not specifically covered (eg, paranasal sinus disease, lymph node evaluation, or the postoperative and postradiation neck), the intent of this book was not to be all encompassing but, rather, to deal with particular topics. The audience is intended to be head and neck surgeons, and they will be served well by this book. Radiologists may also find this volume to be of interest.
