Pediatric Imaging, 2nd Edition

Huisman TAGM.  Pediatric Imaging, 2nd Edition. MOSBY 2010, 408 Pages, $49.95.

This is the 2nd edition of the Case Review Series for pediatric imaging. It contains 200 cases, of which 22 are specific to neuroradiology.  The format is similar to the other books in the series first showing images and then asking 3 or 4 specific questions regarding the findings, diagnosis, differential and management. On the other side of the page, the questions are answered succinctly. A further description of the diagnosis regarding both imaging clinical features is given.  One or two references for further reading are cited, often directing the reader to its associated text, Pediatric Radiology, The Requisites. Like the other books in this series it is organized into three chapters based on difficulty.  The positives of this book include the non-generic questions for each case and the well written and appropriate length discussions. Negatives include that, occasionally, the findings from the images provided are not explained and that there are never arrows on the images to help direct the reader to the sometimes subtle findings.  The relative lack of neuroradiology specific cases is a negative for the readers of the AJNR; however, the intent of this book is to cover general pediatric radiology.  Overall, this book is highly recommended for both residents as well as practicing radiologists who desire to learn or refresh their knowledge of pediatric radiology.
