Simmen D, Jones N. Manual of Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery. 2nd Ed. Thieme; 2013; 468 pgs; 1442 illustrations; $199.99.
Clearly designed for the ENT surgeon, Manual of Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery by Drs. Simmen and Jones is a highly visual text centered primarily, but not exclusively, around the paranasal sinuses, with an abundant number of intraoperative photographs. For the radiologist with interest in head and neck imaging, the book has much to offer, though not with regard to the very short chapter titled “The Place of Radiology” as much as anatomic variants, surgical danger points, approaches to lesions of the sinuses, and surgical landmarks. The chapters contain many CT (primarily) images, most of which are high-quality. With this book, a radiologist would have a greater understanding of what issues the surgeons face (nicely achieved without actually having to go the OR).
